Experience

  1. Marinor NTNU

    Trondheim, Norway
    Sep 2026 - Present

    Autonomy Engineer

    Voluntary
Marinor is an interdisciplinary student team building the autonomous surface vessel Proteus, first for Njord 2027 and later RoboBoat, and a member of the Ocean Autonomy Cluster. We are five on the autonomy team. I'm responsible for transit: route planning over longer distances, which feeds the vessel's LOS guidance. ROS 2 in C++ and Python, Docker and RViz.
  2. KONGSBERG

    Kongsberg, Norway
    Jun 2026 - Aug 2026

Summer Intern – Software, Lone Wolf

    Full-time
Summer team of eight students taking Lone Wolf, KONGSBERG's unmanned ground vehicle, a step further. I was one of two on the ICS team and had the main responsibility for the backend on both sides of the link: a ROS 2 node in C++ on the vehicle with a narrow API over ZeroMQ, and the operator panel in C++/Qt 6. Drew up the network architecture with the team, built a mock backend so the panel could be developed without the vehicle, and wrote the launch files on the vehicle's Jetson. Demonstrated to management on the physical vehicle.

    Jan 2024 - Present

    Bartender

    Part-time
Sales and serving in the cinema bar. Usually working alone, so I'm responsible for the guests, the till and keeping the bar in order.
    Jun 2021 - Present

    Sales Host

    Part-time
Ticket sales, kiosk and customer service. Lots of people in a short time, so it's about being quick and friendly at once.

Projects

Informize (digital information screens)

Web app for setting up and running information screens: a player that has to stay on around the clock, an editor and access control. React/Vite and Supabase. New widgets can be added without touching the player.

Personal website (garberg.tech)

Personal website (garberg.tech)

This site: portfolio, an app portal and some statistics. React/Vite with Supabase for login, built and deployed through GitHub Actions and Cloudflare Pages.

Homelab and smart home

Homelab and smart home

Two Raspberry Pi 5s and a NAS on Tailscale, with around thirty containers in Docker Compose: photo server, media, DNS, backups and Home Assistant. The smart home has custom integrations, a dashboard for a wall tablet, and bus and scooter cards that are now published as HACS cards.

Automation Project: Water Tank Control

Automation Project: Water Tank Control

Level control of a water tank. Discrete PID in a PLC (Structured Text) with anti-windup, a filtered derivative and feedforward, simulated in closed loop against Simulink over OPC and tuned with models from MATLAB System Identification.

About

I'm a robotics and autonomy engineer (B.Sc.) now doing an M.Sc. in Cybernetics and Robotics at NTNU, specialising in robots and vehicle control. I write software for autonomous vehicles in C++ and ROS 2, from sensors and communication on board to the operator panel. In summer 2026 I worked on KONGSBERG's Lone Wolf project, where I built the operator panel and the link between panel and vehicle. My bachelor's thesis was a test environment for the same vehicle in NVIDIA Isaac Sim, which the summer team used.

I now work on route planning and guidance for Marinor NTNU's autonomous surface vessel Proteus. I work agile and test-driven with Git, code review and CI, and what I enjoy most is getting the whole system to run on real hardware. At home I run a homelab and a smart home that keep growing new features, and I like tinkering with 3D printing and ESP microcontrollers.
